Thai Numbers 1 to 100

Numbers come up constantly in Thailand, prices, quantities, times and phone numbers. The good news: Thai counting follows a simple, regular pattern, so once you know one to ten you can build almost everything else.

Start here, everything else is built from these.

Eleven to twenty

Teens are just “ten + digit”. The only quirks: 11 uses èt for one, and 20 starts with yîi, not sǎawng.

Tens, and the one pattern to remember

For any ten, say the digit + sìp (thirty = sǎam-sìp). To add a one on the end, use èt instead of nèung, so 21 is yîi-sìp-èt.

Where you’ll actually reach for them, prices and counting things:

ยี่สิบบาทyîi-sìp bàat20 baht
ร้อยบาทráauy bàat100 baht
สองที่sǎawng thîiFor two (people / seats)

Learn one to ten cold, then the “digit + sìp” pattern, and you can say almost any number you’ll need day to day.

Frequently asked questions

How do you count to ten in Thai?

nèung (1), sǎawng (2), sǎam (3), sìi (4), hâa (5), hòk (6), jèt (7), bpàet (8), gâo (9), sìp (10). Learn these first, the rest is built from them.

What is the pattern for Thai tens?

It’s digit + sìp: sǎam-sìp is 30, hâa-sìp is 50. Twenty is the exception, yîi-sìp. To add a one on the end, use èt: yîi-sìp-èt is 21.

Do I need the Thai number symbols?

Not to speak. Thailand mostly uses the same 1, 2, 3 digits you know. The Thai numerals exist but you can learn to say the numbers without them.
